The Los Angeles Southwest Association of REALTORS® (LASAOR) is dedicated to providing its local membership with resources and information to enhance their business & professional development, promote integrity and competency to better serve the communities they represent.

During the summer of 1921, the Real Estate industry in the Los Angeles area appeared to be very chaotic.  Brokers were unorganized “lone wolves” with no Code of Ethics in effect, causing fear between brokers and the public they were supposed to represent.

A few Real Estate Brokers organized a temporary Multiple Listing Board in August of 1921 to provide order and guidance.  

In a short period of time, this effort proved successful and on October 10, 1921, Articles of Incorporation were signed under the name Southwest Realty Board of Los Angeles.  On January 9, 1922, the first regular election for permanent officers was held and the membership began to grow.

In 1924, Multiple Listing Services were established throughout the state of California through the efforts of one of our members, then CREA Multiple Listing Chairperson.

In 1925, multiple conferences were held between Southwest Los Angeles Realty Board of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Realty Board, which resulted in an agreement to merge  effective January 1, 1926. This transition brought together and was now known as the Los Angeles Realty Board, Southwest Branch.

In 1965, the Southwest Branch moved its offices to 9020 Bellanca in Westchester.

After many years as a branch of the Los Angeles Realty Board, some members felt it was time to form a separate association.  Following many months of negotiations between the two groups, we were successful in finalizing an agreement which resulted in a charter from the National Association of REALTORS® in November 1974, effective January 1, 1975.

Under the new charter, the Southwest Los Angeles Association of REALTORS® (SWLAAOR) was open  to receive REALTOR- Associates and Affiliates and we have been proudly serving since.
